Course Synopsis: This course will give the student a better understanding of
federal and Texas laws that govern the release of public
information. Federal laws covered in the course include the
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Federal Privacy Act, and the Public Information
Act. The course discusses what is available at the
local and county levels of Texas government, and how to
make requests. The student will gain an understanding
about which agency to contact when looking for certain records.
